Growing up, the way I viewed trying was in a negative way. I felt trying implied the attempt of doing something with a chance it would not be executed. From that mindset I began to think that I did not have to try, and all I had to do was actually do. Since my thought process developed from that I saw things, actions, and goals as do’s and don’ts. It was either I can do something or I can’t do something. I feel as if a lot of people from my generation and especially my neighborhood, Bronx New York, felt the same way. There are multiple reasons why this would and could happen. One of the simplest reasons I can see is communication. Today people can instantly communicate with anybody they want, whenever and wherever they want. This creates this laziness because people actually choose whether or not they want to communicate with certain people. This is mind blowing because I am sure this was not the intent of communication in 1792 when Claude Chappe created the first long-distance semaphore telegraph line. Hundreds of years ago intellectual human beings pondered for days trying to figure out how we as a people can communicate with each other and now today we are blocking one another out with this privileged sense of communication. People actually tried to communicate hundreds of years ago and today it is either you do or you don’t. The idea of actually trying to do something is getting worse as everyday activities become easier to be done. Trying creates experience and knowledge learning how things are what they are. Without trying there I’ll be no understanding, just what is. This is what I learned after looking back at my life and all those years of not trying to do anything and just doing. Well I am here to tell you readers that if you are the type of person to just get by and let things happen naturally, that will only get you so far in life. It’s the people that try who succeed because they are the ones learning and obtaining the knowledge in order to gain. I think if more people tried, life would become easier, less lazy, and things would have more meaning.
