It is not easy to change from somebody you use to be into
somebody you want or need to be. Especially when there is a constant reminder
of who you were this makes the change more difficult. Change is not something
that can occur overnight. However, if you wake up every morning feeling like
the person you were yesterday, then you are only going to continue to live in
the past. Living in the past is a haunting of one’s self. We cannot look to
change when we are constantly reminding ourselves of who we were. As human beings
we are drawn to what we know and what we experience the most. Theoretically
speaking, it is difficult to shift and become somebody new or different when
you keep reliving the past. You end up making the same mistakes and not moving
forward towards the person you want to be because you keep looking back.
Literally speaking, it is impossible to know where you are going when you are constantly
looking behind you. This is how the haunting of the past works. If you keep
looking back, you would never get to where you need to go. Nonetheless,
understanding your past and learning from it then moving forward is what can
make a brighter future; a change in one’s self. Then it would be easier to do
as Mahatma Gandhi said “you must be the change you wish to see in the world.” Once
the constant reminders of the past aren’t holding you back the future will seem
so much closer than what is was before. So remember my readers the past is
there to guide you to a better future, not to guide you into an even worst
past. Use your experiences wisely.
